Main Street Tycoon

About Main Street Tycoon

Main Street Tycoon is a free property trading board game you can play right in your browser — a great online alternative to Monopoly® for game nights when nobody wants to set up a physical board. Buy famous American streets from Beale Street to Wall Street, collect rent, build houses and hotels, strike trades, and be the last tycoon standing.

Play solo against smart bots that genuinely negotiate — they value monopolies, railroads, and utility pairs like a human rival would — or go online: host a public table that anyone can join, or create a private room and invite friends with a link. Games keep moving even if someone drops, thanks to turn clocks and bot stand-ins.

How to play

  • • Roll the dice and move around the board; buy the streets, stations, and utilities you land on.
  • • Collect a full color set to build houses and hotels — that's where the big rent comes from.
  • • Trade cash and properties with rivals to complete your sets before they complete theirs.
  • • Run out of money and you're bankrupt; the last player solvent wins the game.

Frequently asked questions

Is Main Street Tycoon a Monopoly alternative?

Yes — if you're looking for a free game like Monopoly® to play online, Main Street Tycoon scratches the same itch: dice, property trading, house-building, and ruthless deals. It's an original, independent game with its own board, cards, and optional house rules, and it is not affiliated with Hasbro.

Can I play with friends online?

Yes. Create a private room and share the invite link — up to 6 players — or host a public table that starts automatically when enough players join. Empty seats can always be filled with bots so the game starts when you're ready.

Is it free? Do I need to download anything?

Completely free, no download and no signup. The game runs in any modern browser on desktop or phone.

Can I play against the computer?

Yes — play solo against 1 to 3 bots with three difficulty levels, from easygoing to shark. Bots buy, build, and negotiate trades for real.

What house rules can I change?

Starting cash, a Rest Stop jackpot, double rent on full sets, even-build rules, limited housing supply, auctions for declined properties, mortgage rules, and even a No Jail mode that turns the jail corners into Advance to Start — the host picks the options before the game starts.
